Trip Report – False Creek Paddle 20-07-12

It was a sunny Sunday morning when our three tandem canoes took to False Creek. On July 12, Jim S and Lia S, Ian C and Jaylene P, and April W and Pam F put in at Vanier Park. The water was calm and cleaner than its reputation suggests. We paddled under bridges and along calm shorelines, had lunch near the Craft brewery, and paddled all the way back. Along the way, we saw modern art, many kayakers, as well as a pirate ship complete with crew, sail, and dancing pirates.

Paddling here is an interesting mix of a calm-yet-urban experience; it’s a good time and doesn’t require a shuttle, but do know that the parking lot at the put-in does cost some money. However, the views and the company were well-worth it. Next time, my trip report should have a GPS map to show where we went! A big thank you to Jim S for organizing it and giving us little brochures about the history of False Creek.

Ian C.
