Dates Oct 3-4-5
Join Rob B for this 2 night (Friday and Saturday) @ Kilby Park Campground (about 2 hrs drive from Vancouver) https://kilby.ca/campground/ reserve in advance. bring camping gear, tent, sleeping bag, mattress, stove cooking gear & food
For a Saturday morning car shuttle and 10 am launch from Ferry Island (Fraser river right) below the Agassiz Bridge. We’ll paddle approximately 17 K (with lunch break and time to explore channel options) as well as scout the confluence of the Harrison for the next days’ paddle by-passing the “eddy”. Before paddling up the Harrison and back to base camp @ Kilby Park Campground.
Word is that there’s a good restaurant at a nearby Golf course.
Sunday morning (after shuttling a car to Dewdney Regional Park) we’ll aim to clear out of the campsite and aim for about an 8:30 launch. Then paddle down the Harrison (river left) before joining the Fraser with a strong ferry to river left to avoid any possible “eddy”. It is approximately 25 K about 5 hrs + to Dewdney Regional Park take out. Several accounts describe this paddle as one of the most scenic to be had on the lower Fraser River. I anticipate we should have canoes loaded up and ready to head home after 4 pm.
Paddle Gear Ensure mandatory canoeing gear is with you. PFD, Whistle, bailer throw rope & spare paddle. Fraser River Maps (paper or digital). Leader will have Gaia Maps with route loaded, spare batteries and waterproof carrying case as well as several printed map pages on which to track progress.
For Nutrition on the river, bring snacks, lunches& liquid refreshments for the day. We’ll have lunch stops and breaks along the way on each leg of the trip. Also bring toiletries, small repair kit for incidentals and your personal small first aid kit.
