Training

Club Training

All new members should take our two day Basic Paddler tandem canoe course (RCABC tandem lakewater level 1) to learn or refresh basic paddling and safety skills for lake paddling. For those interested in moving water we offer a 1 day moving water clinic, a river rescue skills day and a weekend camp-out in Squamish, in May and June. For all enquiries regarding this club-provided free (with membership) training email training@beavercanoeclub.org

Paddlers who have completed both the lakewater and moving water training are welcome to attend our annual River’s week event. This event is typically based in the Princeton area so we can paddle the Similkameen and Tulameen rivers, however we are sometimes based in other areas such as Merritt or the Shuswap.

Private Training

All BCC members are strongly encouraged to take further skills training such as the RCABC solo and tandem introductory and advanced whitewater courses. Private instruction is provided locally by Carey Robson (www.learn2canoe.ca), Lance Castonguay (lcastonguay@sd43.bc.ca) and Elements Adventure company

RCABC river rescue skills courses are recommended in preference to regular swiftwater rescue courses since they are  specifically targeted to canoeists. Levels 1 and 2 are available through Elements Adventure company

For a full list of RCABC courses check out the RCABC website
