Presidents Message – March 2017
That was some meeting last month. In case you missed it, we had to cancel because of the snow. I don’t remember that ever happening before.
We had a motion to resolve at that February meeting, to provide a $100 donation to the Nicola Valley Rod and Gun Club, in support in it’s effort to win water access for the public. We’ll be bringing the motion forward to the March meeting. For details of the motion, see the website.
Also in March, we’ll be asking your opinion about moving the meeting times to earlier in the evening.
The other big event, the Gunwal Grub Throwdown food contest has been postponed until the April meeting. I heard there’s still room for entries. Coincidentally, many of us are planning menus for summer trips. Wonder if anyone wants to test their menu in advance at the contest. If so, there’s still time to contact Suzanna at zzroomie@gmail.com
Ramsay’s still looking for trip leaders. Want to organize one? Email Ramsay at trips@beavercanoeclub.org
From now through April, we’ll be looking for new members. We’ll do posters of course, and will be present at retailers and events – but we’ve known for a few years now that the most effective recruiting tool has been word of mouth. If you have a friend or family member who just might like canoeing, bring then out on a trip, and maybe to basic paddlers. One member who will stay ten years is worth ten who stay only one year.
March is a special month for the Beavers. It’s our first official trip. As always, we are starting off with Widgeon Creek and staging trips every week through to October. Paddling is what we are here for. Hope you’re all ready to go.
